Our Story...

Welcome TO The Old Salt Loft

We are a family run bespoke manufacturing company based in Essex. Our work is driven by creativity and the desire to keep moving with the times.

 

The business is run buy husband and wife team Sarah and Paul.

Sarah’s original business concept was inspired by her love of sailing and her desire to ‘make something out of an old sail’ – Sarah became the proud owner of a heavy-duty ‘sail makers’ sewing machine from the Southampton Boat Show. She loved the versatility and heritage of the sail materials and soon attracted a local following for her up-cycled sail bag designs.

With a background in graphic design and corporate branding, Sarah saw an opportunity to transform her unique bags into branded promotional merchandise. The business grew, and soon, an industrial embroidery machine became part of the workshop, enabling the creation of personalized and branded products.

 

As her children grew older Sarah was able to dedicate more time to the business and Ragbags organically grew into The Old Salt Loft – a specialist design and production company producing branded products, corporate clothing, embroidered items.

Stitch Print

In January 2019 Sarah welcomed her husband, Paul into the team and together they focus on growing the business further with the acquisition of ‘Stitch Print’ they took the business to the next level. 

 

Stitch Print is now a well established part of the business specialising in printed and embroidered workwear, leisure wear and much more.

Cozy Robes

The Covid-19 pandemic posed new challenges, but Sarah and Paul saw opportunities. In January 2021, they introduced a collection of change robes (Cozy Robes) and towelling trousers, addressing the need for practical solutions when changing rooms were closed.

Race Bibs

Paul is an experienced dinghy sailor having qualified for the British Sailing Team, his attention to detail is unwavering and with his business skill could see a gap in the market: race bibs...

On the dance floor

Sarah being a keen sports women turned her hand to golf and through Collaborating with friend and artist Sharon to create ‘On the dance Floor’ a set of golf themed greetings cards. Her artwork features characters, often female, celebrating a good shot by ‘doing a little dance’.

A Royal gift

Today The Old Salt Loft works across a diverse range of projects for its local, national and global clients – including the British Sailing Team, Oyster Yachts, and Land Rover BAR.

 

Sarah is delighted that to this day, she still receives emails from her early customers about their original ‘Ragbags’, and the sailcloth bags remain a popular product in the Old Salt Loft portfolio and she has even made a bag for HRH Princess Anne.
