The designer behind The Old Salt Loft
The original Ragbags brand was founded by new mum Sarah in 2010. Sarah and her family had relocated from Hertfordshire to Essex a few years earlier to be by the sea, as they both enjoyed sailing and racing their Squib, a two-man keelboat.
Settled in the pretty town of Burnham-on-Crouch, Sarah held the position of Design Team Leader at a national training company but was secretly nurturing a passion for product design, fuelled by her new seaside location.
In 2010, after months of planning her concept – ‘to make something out of an old sail’ – Sarah became the proud owner of a heavy-duty ‘sail makers’ sewing machine from the Southampton Boat Show. Encouraged by her friends who loved her initial bag designs, Sarah established Ragbags and began experimenting with different designs.
Four years on, and The Old Salt Loft is now home to the original Ragbags concept. In 2016 The Old Salt Loft expanded into producing heat transfer labels enabling The Old Salt Loft to produce stickers, corporate clothing and brand the bags for merchandising. More recently poster printing, bespoke wall paper and embroidery have been added to the Old Salt Loft’s list of services.
Despite the brands’ exciting growth and busy orders, Sarah is proud to still oversee every bespoke design and custom order herself.
